There was a forest of apple trees nested at the top of a lush hill near the edge of town. Nearby residents would often sit on their back porch all day and gaze at the trees. One day, a peculiar young boy was sitting on his grandpa’s lap looking up at the forest of apple trees when he asked, “Grandpa. Why are all those trees so close together?” The grandpa replied, “Because the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” The boy said, “Oh. Well, what about the tallest tree; the one that’s leaning over the edge of the cliff? Does his apples fall far?”

The grandpa answered, “Yes. The trees that try too hard unknowingly push their apples away.”
